Accord and Unite have issued a joint statement whining on about how Lloyds making changes to the “Back to Your Best” policy. Sharon Doherty, Chief People and Places Officer, must be quaking in her Dr Martens at the thought of such a joint statement.

The changes being imposed by Lloyds include not pausing performance plans when a member of staff is on sick leave and plans of just 4 weeks long.

Lloyds will always do what’s in its best interests. And this in no different. It’s about making it easier for Lloyds to get rid of staff it doesn’t want. However, whining on about it is not going to stop it.

And Accord and Unite have got form when it comes to allowing Lloyds to get rid of hard-fought protections. Less we forget, Accord and Unite allowed Lloyds to get rid of valuable job security protections.

Members will remember they both did nothing when Lloyds got rid of market movement increases for staff downgraded because of reorganisations. And they agreed to scrap job security appeal panels, which were made up of equal numbers of bank and union nominees and replaced them with a system in which allowed HR to have the final say on whether a member of staff had been made redundant fairly.

Lloyds Only Understands Legal Action

If the Bank’s latest policy results in the harassment of and discrimination against our members when they are on sick leave, we will pursue legal cases against Lloyds.

That’s the only language it understands.

Accord and Unite are threatening to take legal action but it will never happen because they are too scared of Lloyds cutting of its financial support. Without that financial support they would be lost. We are not beholden to Lloyds and that’s the fundamental difference between us.

History has shown that using the Courts is the best way to force Lloyds to do the right thing. And that’s what we’ll continue to do.
