Another day, another redundancy announcement.
Lloyds has announced that it’s making 500 redundancies in the following areas:
- Customer Relationships (Fraud & Disputes, Resolutions and Customer Financial Assistance)
- Group Chief Operating Office
- Chief Technology Office
- People & Places function
Staff in those areas will be having one-to-one meetings over the next few days.
In a discussion with analysts last week, Lloyds confirmed that it would be spending 30% more on severance costs in 2025 (£280 million) than it did in 2024. So, there are going to be further redundancy announcements over the next months.
Those members whose jobs are at risk of redundancy following the latest announcement should contact the Union’s Bedford Office on 01234 262868 for advice and guidance.
Fire Alarm at Old Broad Street
A few weeks ago it took some staff up to 25 minutes to evacuate 33 Old Broad Street, London following a fire alarm. Luckily it was a false alarm this time.
We’ve been told that it was so chaotic that some staff may have stayed in the building not realising that it was being evacuated. Members say that there was no checking staff had left the building and many just wandered off to get something to eat and drink. We have been told that there were no seats for disabled staff.
We’ve reported on this issue many times in the past. Members will recall that a few years ago it took 20 minutes to evacuate 125 London Wall. And after that the incident, Lloyds had to issue a mass notification notice a few months later when it turned out the fire evacuation announcement system at London Wall wasn’t working effectively.
We’ve said it before and will keep saying it: Lloyds needs to do more to protect staff and that includes reappointing Fire Marshalls. This time it was a false alarm but next time it could be real. Lloyds needs to wake up and quickly.
We are reviewing what went on and that will be covered in a future Newsletter. In the meantime, we would like to hear from any members involved in the incident at Old Broad Street. Members with any questions should contact the Union’s Advice Team on 01234 262868 (choose Option 1).
